Summer Programmes from SomersetWorks

This is a brief update on the ongoing planning for the Summer programmes from SomersetWorks for Year 11’s across the county.

Main News Story

SomersetWorks are aware that this will be a long summer for many and the intention, based on their secured funding, is that across Somerset all young people leaving Year 11 will have the opportunity to take part in some fun, interesting, supportive and informative activities that will offer support to them in their journey to year 12.

SomersetWorks are particularly keen to ensure that our most vulnerable young people are encouraged and supported to sign up for programmes and will be discussing individuals within the Transition Panels for each school.

For more information on the Summer programmes, please see the attached documents.

Alongside the offer, the Bristol Bears will be basing a new Hitz/NEET course in Taunton from September – an exciting local development.

The Bristol Bears can make visits to schools to introduce this programme and put on taster sessions for your students. The sessions are aimed at all Level 1/2 learners but in particular those who are not sure of a destination and would value a small group with work experience.

SomersetWorks are also working with Support Services for Education at Kilve Court and Charterhouse to arrange activity days, including a range of activities with Young Somerset alongside experience days with The RSPCA. SomersetWorks will also have a particular focus on Level 3 learners, including a series of conference days in July for prospective A Level Students, plus experience days with a Level 3 focus and outdoor activities at Kilve Court and Charterhouse.

SomersetWorks are working closely with all the Somerset Colleges and Post 16 Destinations on a programme of support over the summer which will include contact, campus visits and taster days.

The offer will be available on the SomersetWorks website and will contain all the offers both virtual and face to face and will be updated throughout the summer. The intention is that all learners will have accessed the website before the end of August and be aware of how to book onto or access the activities or will have been guided to select a support option.
