Outline
A one day course to support parents and professionals working with children and young people with communication difficulties.


Description
We start by looking at the importance of communication skills for life and work. We then move on to look in detail at the skills children and young people need in order to communicate with those
around them. We identify strategies to support our children and young people in their receptive and expressive communication, as well as their social communication.

Understanding Autism

 

Outline
A one day course to extend knowledge of Autism for parents and professionals working with children and young people from 5-25 years. This will cover mainstream and specialist settings, as well as the home/other settings.


Description
A general overview of the four key areas of difference and the psychological theories which underpin differences in Autism.

Supporting parents and professionals to think about/enhance different environments in order to reduce anxiety and stress for their children/young people and to promote learning and resilience. This will include developing social and emotional understanding, communication and sensory issues.
Exploring the development of effective communication and developing visual support for children and young people with Autism. How to support effective communication.
