School Information Pack Update

FAO All Schools

Main News Story

As part of the local area wide developments in SEND the Supporting Inclusive Schools group is now aiming to provide termly updates to the Schools Information Pack that was sent to all schools last Easter. Please can we ask Headteachers and SENCOs to share this pack with staff as documents do offer support for other specific staff e.g. Role of the Classteacher.

The supporting Inclusive school group is part of the Local Area Improvement Network (LAIN) which is developing and planning support across the local area to improve outcomes for Children with SEND and their families. The LAIN is also leading on the preparation for the SEND inspection.

This time the schools pack will be available electronically and will be accessible via Professional Choices (https://professionalchoices.org.uk/children-young-peoples-services/special-education-needs-and-disabilities-send/) along with all of the documents from the original pack. This term the updates cover a range of areas and will provide schools with both information and support to be compliant in their statutory duties. This goes alongside the launch of the Inclusion Audit for schools and the weekly SEND newsletter.

Contained in this term’s update will be:

  • SEND Charter
  • Guidance on being compliant with the Equality Act
  • Guidance on exclusions for children with SEND
  • Damien Hind’s Speech introducing his vision for SEND in schools - sometimes referred to as ‘the golden thread of SEND’
  • Letter from Director of Childrens services to Schools September
At recent headteacher briefings a request was made for a list of key contacts for schools, as an update for existing heads and for the new heads and SENCOs in Somerset - we are working on this currently and this will come to you all separately and then be updated with each school pack.
The next update is planned for January. If you would like to become more involved with any of the programme groups or have ideas of what you would like to see included then we would be happy to receive these.
