Somerset County Council’s approach to carrying out school condition surveys has recently been audited by the South West Audit Partnership. As you would expect, the audit was thorough and identified a number of shortcomings in the Councils approach. The resulting report has been reviewed by the Council’s Audit Committee who have committed to implement a number of improvements.
This note is to simply to give you advance notice that the approach to carrying out condition surveys in Somerset Maintained Schools will be changing shortly. Council Officers are currently working on updating the school building survey methodology to ensure the procedures and data collected are robust enough for the Council to better understand and manage the condition of its school building stock.
