The Somerset Cyber Challenge

The Somerset Cyber Challenge aims to encourage Somerset middle and secondary schools to run a STEM-themed club that includes more girls and more computing.

Main News Story

They are working with STEM Learning and the National Cyber Security Centre to encourage Somerset schools to set up STEM clubs and enter the CyberFirst Girls Competition. CyberFirst Girls is an annual UK-wide competition which provides a fun but challenging environment to encourage and inspire the next generation of young women to consider computer science as an option, with a view to a future career in cyber security. The competition is for Year 8 girls.

Through the Somerset Cyber Challenge, the STEM Ambassador Hub West England will support Somerset schools to set up clubs, and will reward schools that manage to successfully enter the CyberFirst Girls competition with cash prizes for the club and teacher CPD.

They are launching The Somerset Cyber Challenge at an event on Tuesday, 5th November 2019 at the Albemarle Centre, Taunton from 4:30pm-6:30pm, to which you are cordially invited.

The event is open to any teacher, technician, teaching assistant or other Somerset school staff member with an interest in encouraging young people to actively engage with STEM.

The event is also open to anyone from industry with an interest in supporting Somerset teachers to set up STEM clubs, or helping teams enter the CyberFirst Girls competition.
