At present the latest Government Guidance -

Main News Story

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools - states that there are a variety of measures that can be undertaken to ensure that a school is kept well ventilated (see Section 1, number 8).

Embedded links in the guidance recommends further information is available on the HSE website https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/equipment-and-machinery/air-conditioning-and-ventilation.htm and the CIBSE website, an independent standards body for heating and ventilation. Their latest guide provides some useful information to heating and ventilation, such as having windows or vents open just enough to allow for natural ventilation and to help remove stagnation in the room if no windows are open; opening windows at higher levels of the room to warm the cooler air as it enters the classroom, whilst allowing for a more efficient flow.

The guide is located at: https://www.cibse.org/coronavirus-covid-19/emerging-from-lockdown#1.

For further practical measures, the National Education Union (NEU) has listed a series of suggestions that can be used by schools https://neu.org.uk/advice/coronavirus-ventilation-and-temperature

When interpreting guidance, there is always a need to take a sensible and pragmatic approach and work with the option that best suits the layout of the school and its classrooms.
