Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership Safeguarding Week 2020



The SSCP is pleased to be running a series of FREE online events to hear from SSCP stakeholders and provide updates on partnership activity for children and young people. These events are suitable for anyone who works with children and young people in a paid or voluntary capacity. Please feel free to share this with your colleagues.

Monday 7th December: 10-11.30am

Introduction to the Forum Week - Hear from safeguarding partners about the new SSCP arrangements, and from Dr Mark Peel, Somerset's Independent Scrutineer, about the role of the national Child Safeguarding Review Panel and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews.


Tuesday 8th December: 10-11.30am

Covid-19 & Young People's Mental Health - Somerset's Educational Psychologists talk about the Wellbeing for Education Return programme; Young Somerset discuss their initiatives and support for young people's mental health, and Kooth provide an overview of online mental health support.


Tuesday 8th December: 5-6.30pm

Learning & Good Practice: Hearing the Voice of Young People - SSCPs Youth Forum will share their priorities and achievements for children and young people in Somerset; and InteGr8 project will present insight from their detached youth work across West Somerset, Taunton and Sedgemoor.


Wednesday 9th December: 2-3.30pm

Learning from Serious Case Reviews - Explore lessons learned from Somerset's recent serious case reviews and action taken locally to effect change. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.


Thursday 10th December: 2-3.30pm

New Models in Family Safeguarding Solutions - Hear about the 2020 launch of the Family Safeguarding Model whereby social workers have greater access to adult workers to support whole families. There will also be an opportunity for discussion and questions during the session.


Friday 11th December: 11am-12pm

Policing During a Pandemic - Avon and Somerset Constabulary explore the challenges created by Covid-19, and how the Police have supported young people to stay safe during the pandemic. To include a question and answer session.
