Welcome to Beckington Church of England First School

"Challenge. Exploration. Friendship."

Welcome to our school!  We are a small village church school, situated in the heart of the village of Beckington.
We enjoy working closely with our partner school, Mells Church of England First School and have great relationships with our local community.

"Beckington CE First School acknowledges our duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children
and expect everyone to share this commitment."

Welcome to our school website.  We hope you enjoy finding out more about our school.

We know that Beckington School is a special place to learn and this was fully recognised by Ofsted.  “Relationships with pupils and adults are excellent. Pupils are uniformly polite and helpful.  The school is a happy and harmonious place to be.”

The children at Beckington School love learning and work hard to achieve their best. "Staff have consistently high expectations and skilfully enable pupils of all abilities to make excellent progress.”

“Attainment is high in all year groups.”

We value all areas of learning and staff were praised for using their expertise in different year groups, enabling all children to experience exceptional lessons in French, music, computing and gymnastics.

We are fortunate enough to be part of an amazing village, surrounded by people who are willing to give up their time to support us.  Our dedicated governing body were highly praised and our Chairman of governors would like to say thank-you to everyone involved in making Beckington Church of England First School such an outstanding place to be!

We are proud of our school and would be happy to show prospective parents around. Please telephone the school to book an appointment.

With one week to go we are nearing the end of this academic year.  It has been a very busy end to the year – thank-you for all your support with ensuring the children have the right equipment and are picked up at the right time in the right place! It has been lovely taking advantage of all the fine weather.
As well as the activities in school, we have been celebrating all the activities that children do outside school too.  At Mells this morning we have heard about children getting awards from Beavers, gymnastics clubs, rugby, football, ballet and even someone who has sold one of her paintings at the Black Swan Arts Centre, following a competition – well done Caitlin!

On Monday this week both schools sent a choir to sing at the Cheese and Grain along with several other schools – they made a lovely sound altogether and we even had some children singing solo parts – well done Poppy and Oscar!  Thanks also to Miss Knight and Mrs Simons for working on the songs with the children.

Beckington gymnasts took part in a competition in Street on Saturday – they all did extremely well and the school came away with the team trophy – well done to all the children who took part.

Also well done to the Quad Kids team who took part in the School Games final at Millfield – they represented the school well and showed great determination, coming 8th out of 15 schools.

Our Y4 children have had their sports transition afternoon to their middle schools, so are hopefully now feeling ready and confident about their next move, having met lots of the other children from different schools that they will be joining.

The leavers assemblies are next Friday – 9:30 for Beckington and 11:00 for Mells.  Parents are all welcome.  At Beckington we will also be saying a special good bye to Mrs House who is retiring as business manager after 25 years of service.
