Welcome to the Dahl class page. This term we are learning about the “United Kingdom,” and our work across the curriculum stems from our topic.
In September Key Stage 2 traveled to London for the day to take a trip on the London Eye and a cruise down the river Thames. This trip has been invaluable to the children as they were able to see these iconic buildings first hand and have a true understanding of the scale of the city in comparison to their local area.
Our topic work has infiltrated into our English lessons too; the children have researched and created their own non- chronological report about the Tower of London. This has proved interesting, especially for the year 4s who have been able to link their new knowledge to their existing understanding of the Tudors from their topic last year! As the term progresses we will use other British sources to influence our English work. For example, nearer Christmas the children will be creating their own versions of a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
The children are currently innovating their own versions of “Rama and the Demon King,” as the children are currently studying Hinduism in RE with Mrs. Weston. We encourage children to be as imaginative as possible with their story writing and this traditional tale of ‘Good Vs Evil’ has proved to be a fabulous stimulus.
In maths, the children are coming to the end of their place value topic, with year 3s learning about 3 digit numbers and the year 4s about 4 digits. A secure understanding of place value is a fundamental basis for working with number across the operations. In Dahl class, we place a great deal of emphasis on times tables and we continue to work on them throughout the year using a variety of fun and exciting games and activities.
Children have been working hard on their times tables and been accessing Hit the button app. Please follow the link for the game - Hit the button
The school is keen for children to be able to access the Times Tables Rockstar scheme. We would appreciate it if you would be able to allow your child/chidlren to access the scheme. This can be done via a tablet by downloading the app or via the internet. Please follow the link - Times Tables Rockstars
