Year 5 and Year 6

This term, our school's topic heading is, 'No Place Like Home'!

Throughout our topic work, Badger Class is focusing on the events of the Second World War, in particular the effects they had on children and young people during this time.

In English, we will be using picture and film to inspire our narrative writing. We will be imagining the scene following an air raid and creating setting and atmosphere in our writing and also writing from the perspective of an evacuee!

Our class reader for the term will be 'When we were warriors' by Emma Carroll. However, we will also be looking at texts such as 'Friend or Foe' by Michael Morpurgo and 'Carrie's War' by Nina Bawden.

In Science, we shall be concentrating on the life cycles of plants and animals, as well as classification of living things and also endangered species.

Our artwork this term will focus on World War Two; creating wartime items such as an evacuee's luggage label and gas mask. We will also be looking at the works of wartime artist, Paul Nash.
