"That they may have life, life in all its fullness"
John: Chapter 10 Verse 10
This year our Hedgehogs' Class is Yrs R and Y1. The Class teacher is Miss Kierstan and the TA is Mrs Flanagan.
Please see our Roadmaps for the projects we are working on and the curriculum page on this website to see which schemes and approaches we use to achieve the learning objectives for these years.
In addition to this, Hedgehogs have a number of visits planned. These include Ilminster Warehouse and theatre trip. These trips are designed to enhance the curriculum, to enhance cultural capital and support social skills.
The children in YR work on a curriculum designed to enable them to meet the Early Learning Goals. These goals include reading, writing and number work. The children will learn the phonics needed to help them to decode words in Reading and spell them in writing.
In Year 1, the children begin The National Curriculum. All children in this year group take a test in Phonics during the summer term.
Children in Yrs R and 1 are all in school Houses and may represent their class in the School Council.
Children will often play a part in school collective worship and may plan and lead worship for their own classes.
Our aim for Hedgehogs' children is that they make a successful transition into 'big school' and that they confidently begin their learning journey.
Homework for Hedgehogs' Class is daily reading or phonics practise, spellings for Year 1 children and a list of tasks linked to the topic to be completed at home.
