We are a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School. As such, we enjoy very good relationships with the Minster and other local churches.

The Christian faith, and Christian values, are important to the school and are reflected in our day to day practice.

The Church of England are well represented on the governing body of the school. There is a representative of the Parochial Church Council, a representative of the Diocesan Board of Education and the Vicar (who is ex-officio).

The school is fortunate to be sited in the heart of the town and very close to the Minster. The children visit the church fairly regularly, both on educational visits and for special services.

The Vicar visits the school regularly to take Collective Worship with the children and we are currently waiting for our new Vicar Rev Jo Stobart to start in October 2019.

The following statement appears within the school's prospectus:

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church at parish and diocesan level. The school aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers pupils. The ethos of the school promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, emotional, social and academic progress of every child. We strive for a safe, secure and positive learning environment, in which all learners can thrive.

As a Church of England school we believe we have a special responsibility; to ensure everyone at the school is valued and recognised as being created in the image of God and uniquely gifted by Him. We also wish to ensure that the school is rooted in Christian values, principles and beliefs and that collective worship and religious education are central to the life of the school. We thank everyone in the wider community who help us with this.
