Parents and Teachers Association (PTA)

All parents and staff at Thurlbear CE VA Primary School are members of the PTA, which exists to promote a sense of community and raise funds for additional school resources and activities.  At its AGM each Autumn Term a group of volunteers agrees to run the organisation and all parents are encouraged to help and support its functions.

The money raised always benefits the children, and parents are kept informed about PTA events and how the money raised is spent.

Last year the PTA funded the development of our new playground equipment.

This year, they are working towards supporting the development of our Foundation Stage outdoor learning environment, development of new reading materials in school and much, much more.

Over the last couple of years the PTA has paid for:

  • visiting theatre productions
  • transport to school residential trips
  • pathway around the field
  • Forest School development
  • playground equipment for lunchtime play

Note from our Chair, Lucie Bond

Hi I'm Lucie, married to James and mum to Emily in year 4 and George in Reception. Most of you probably know me as a TA here at Thurlbear School or as an active member of the PTA for the last 4 years.   I was re-elected as your PTA Chairwoman this year and along with our new committee members and super volunteers, will endeavor to deliver another amazing year of fundraising and enrichment activities to benefit our fantastic school.

Note from our Vice-Chair, Guy Mock

My wife Hannah and I are so pleased to have Will and Sophie in such an awesome school.  As the Vice Chair I work alongside Lucie, Kerry, Sarah, Charlie and many volunteers to make sure the PTA continues to work closely with the School, putting on events and raising money to invest back in each child's time at Thurlbear.

Note from our Treasurer, Kerry Prisco

Hello, my name is Kerry and I am married to Pep, and I am mum to Isabella in year 1 and Luca who is at pre-school. As treasurer I will be keeping track and letting you all know how much money is raised at each event to help buy additional facilities, equipment, materials and activities for the children at Thurlbear School. We think Thurlbear is an absolutely fantastic school!

Note from our Secretary, Sarah Hampson

I'm Sarah, married to Gareth and mummy to Albert and Harry.  We only moved to Somerset last year and are delighted that we were fortunate enough to land in the catchment of such an incredible school.   Despite being new we can already see what a special place Thurlbear is and as such I volunteered to join the PTA to try and help give something back to this unique School.

How to Get Involved…

We would very much welcome your ideas for new PTA events, how you would like to see PTA funds spent going forwards and of course offers of help at the various events currently in the calendar.  There are many ways that you can get in touch with the PTA either via our email; thurlbearpta@hotmail.com, via the suggestions box positioned in the School Office or in person.  There is usually at least one of us in the playground before or after school so please come and say hello!
