Internet use is closely monitored and filtered in school. However with so many avenues through which children can access the internet these days such as laptops, phones, tablets, game consoles and even televisions we all need to be vigilant about their safety online.
Some national statistics;
1 in 3 children have reported cyber bullying.(McAfee survey of children 2014).
1 in 5 indecent images of children shared online were taken by themselves. (CEOP 2013)
1 in 5 children aged 8 to 11 year olds have a social media profile, this rises to 7 in 10 for 12 year olds. Ofcom (2015).
General Advice for keeping children safe online
The NSPCC have put together a useful guide to gaming online – when, where and how should children be playing? How do you choose a game for your child? How can you set up parental controls?
Childline  and CEOP offer a 24 hour, 7 day a week support line, email or web form for parents and children.
