County Boccia - 30th November 2017

We took along 3 teams to the Boccia County Qualifier at Westfield Academy to take on teams from schools across South Somerset. The A team played in Group A and our B and C teams played in group B. We also helped to create a 4th team with King Ina who were a few players short in Group B. Shepton A had some very tough opposition and finished 4th with points difference playing a role as 3rd, 4th and 5th all had 19 points (4 for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a loss). The B team finished 3rd in group B and managed to pick up a spot at the County finals in February where they will take on the best in Somerset.

CISP Cross Country - 29th November 2017

The schools within the Crewkerne and Ilminster School Partnership (CISP) took part in a Cross Country event for the Year 3 and 4 children at Maiden Beech Academy. We took on the 6 other schools in the partnership that include Greenfylde, St Barts, Ashlands, Misterton, Haselbury Plucknett and St Mary and St Peter’s (SMSP). The top 2 finishers for each team counted towards the team result, which were some fantastic results:

3rd Place—Year 3 Girls 3rd Place—Year 3 Boys 2nd Place—Year 4 Girls

Harry was the only Year 4 Boy running, however a Three Saints Federation team would have been 3rd.

Individual results highlights were a brilliant 1st place for Edie, 3rd place for Freddie and strong finishes of 5th for Mollie, 6th for Jack, 6th for Faye and 8th for Harry. Charlotte, Lucas and Sophie put in a great runs and we are very proud of the team again.

Each team had the opportunity to play each other with Shepton Beauchamp 1 running out the eventual winners. It was a great result for the Three Saints Federation as Shepton and SMSP took the first 4 places. There were some brilliant shots and one or two tight games. The children all demonstrated some great sportsmanship and were very competitive.

A big thank you to Mr Rice for helping to set up and also Mr Brunt and Mr Gawen for bringing along their teams. We appreciated the support from the parents that came along to watch the children.

Inter-House Boccia - 2nd November 2017

Seymour Class took part in the first Inter-House competition of the year with Mr Rice and Mrs Blunden by playing Boccia. Boccia (pronounced 'Bot-cha') is a Paralympic sport were athletes throw (kick or use a ramp) a ball onto the court with the aim of getting closest to a 'jack' ball. Once all the balls have been thrown one side receives points for every ball they have closer to the jack than their opponents closest ball .

Merchant were the winners by wining 9 sets, followed by Red Worthy with 8 and Dabinett with 7. Faye the Best Player, Ruby won Shot of the Day and Ivy was the Most Consistent. The children have improved week on week during practices and played really well.

Football Tournament  - 12th October 2017

The team improved a huge a mount in their second tournament and proved how much improved confidence can boost performance. A 0-1 loss to Hinton St George was tough to take with the goal coming with the last kick of the game. Another 0-1 loss to a very good Greenfylde B was followed by a hard fought 0-0 draw with SMSP, Ilton and then a brilliant 1-1 draw against possibly the strongest team in the tournament, Greenfylde A,  with Freddie Hunt taking his chance with great composure.

Harry received the Sportsmanship certificate. He has proven to be a brilliant leader in all our matches by supporting the team and also playing some fantastic football.

Football Tournament  - 3rd October 2017

We started the football season with a tournament at Hinton St George. This is possibly one of the youngest teams the school have fielded with a majority of the team being Year 2. We took on 3 strong teams and lost 0-3 to Hinton St George and to St Mary and St Peter’s, Ilton. We lost 7-0 to Merriot as we lost Freddie for part of the match to injury.

Somerset School Games Finals - 6th July 2017

Our QUAD kids team attended the Somerset School Games Finals at Millfield Senior School for the County Finals. The team took on the 16 best schools in the county with 60 boys and 60 girls competing and had an amazing day. The team finished 14th and we enjoyed some great individual results. William Hunt was 10th overall, William Rees 27th, Anya Snow was 18th and Edie 23rd. William H was 2nd in the Standing Long Jump and William R 7th. Anya was 4th fastest in the sprint and in standing long jump with Edith 8th in the long jump. Grace managed 17th in the sprint and 18th in the Vortex Howler Throw. These are amazing achievements considering we were the smallest school in the competition with possibly the youngest team. A very big thank you to the families that came and provided brilliant support.
