Sports and Interhouse
Throughout the year Mr White, Mr de Wilton, Mr Lunn and other teachers will be arranging for the children at Wellsprings to participate in a range of sports, festivals and interhouse competitions. They will get the chance to do multi-skills, net and wall, striking and fielding, and swimming, as well as take part in tournament - football, netball, gymnastics and rounders.
Recognising achievement in sport
Sainsbury's School Games Bronze award 2014/15.We have been awarded the Bronze level by Sainsbury's School Games for two years running, which demonstrates our commitment to offering a wide range of sporting competition for our children. This accolade is awarded to schools who show they offer a range of competitive sporting events and opportunities throughout the year and involve children in the organisation, decision-making and running of different games and sports.
This has included participation at central venue league events such as football and netball, but also the efforts of playground leaders, our relatively new Interhouse Festival of Sport for KS2 and the annual
School Games for KS1 and Foundation Stage.
Other sports opportunities we have offered have included football club, tag rugby club, netball club, rounders club, gymnastics clubs for boys and girls, badminton club, Change 4 Life club, school games days for Key Stages 1 and 2 and the Foundation Stage. Children have represented the school in quadkids athletics, rounders, netball and football tournaments (and friendlies).
Interhouse Festival of Sport 2015
It was a welcome return of the Interhouse Festival of Sport (IFOS) for 2015, where children from Years 3-6 took part in one of five different sports in an interhouse maelstrom of a competition. They could choose the one sport which they would like to play and represent their house. Each of the four houses has teams representing them for the following sports: football, netball, kick rounders, archery and kwik cricket.
The competition was very close and played in a terrific spirit by all the children. The winners from the 2015 IFOS were as follows:
After all the points were added up for each event, the overall winners were Brendons.
The cross-country was another memorable day with around 100 children representing their houses by running around the school field or ground (or both!). Well done to Brendons, who wrestled the trophy away from Exmoor.
Well done to all who took part - we look forward to more of the same competitive spirit and enjoyable interhouse sport in 2016.
